Wind River Rifle paid $2,800 for restoration work on my shotgun; some of the work was incorrect/unauthorized Ft. Walton Beach, Florida
5th of Oct, 2011 by User600245
I am filing this report in regards to Bob Williams and his company Wind River Rifle.
Over two years ago, I sent my LC Smith Field Grade double-12 to Wind River for restoration. I have conferred with them several times by phone and e-mail. But in the last couple of months, there has been no contact. They have not seen fit to return any of my phone calls or e-mails.
The following are the last communications I had with them: Sir: This is to inform you tht I am sending you a registered letter requiring an explanation of what is going on with regards to my shotgun. I observe that your voicemail box is full, so my next call will be to BATF, perhaps they can persuade you to cooperate.I want either my shotgun (completed as specified in our agreement) or a full and complete refund of the $2,800.00 I paid you. No other compromise or explanation will be acceptable. Wind River: Hi ok computer is down see about getting ready for u Customer: Your response to my email was woefully inadequate, lacking in both form and substance. Why has it taken so long for you to respond to me? The registered letter will still be sent today and I still intend to call BATF. Your business practices are poor beyond the capacity for rational thought. I regret having had to resort to such measures, but your lack of response to me has forced my hand. I repeat my demand that you either send my shotgun (completed as specified in our agreement) or a full and complete refund of the $2,800.00 I paid you. No excuses will be tolerated. Wind River: Computer is now operational I understand your frustration with us and I have stepped into operations personally to correct the short commings in customer servivce our phone person has gone fo a month over the holidays I am with you shotgun in hand there has been an issue completing single trigger asswemblies as a result of a parts shortage. that is all that is lacking to complete this project I an going to PERSONALLY take parts from m y personal shotguns that are complete to complete this project promptly for you. I will write you further early next week to define progress I will work on this for you over the week end and thanks. Customer Experience: My LC Smith arrived today (December 16th, 2010), and as I feared it was not done to what I specified. Overall, the gun is in nice shape, the barrels were done ok and the color case hardening looks nice. The forearm and butt stock are in English walnut. Thats the good part. Those morons did not put in a single trigger as I asked. Their excuse was "We didn't have the parts", despite the fact that the man in charge said he was going to take parts from his own Smiths to make it right (see the e-mail above for exactly what Bob Williams said to me). Next, the original stock configuration had an American-style pistol grip. They gave my gun a stock with a straight English-style grip. At no time did I specify changing the stock configuration. Upon receiving my LC Smith From Wind River last week, I examined it and saw that they had not replaced the double triggers with a single trigger. Their excuse was that they didn't have the parts, despite the fact thet I spoke directly to the owner of Wind River and he told me that he would take parts from his own LC Smiths. Next, when I began the restoration project with them, I simply wanted a full restoration. The gun had an American-style pistol gripped stock o it when i sent it to them. When I opened th ebox, I saw that they had replaced the stock with an English-style straight grip stock. I did NOT authorize this. I called them to request a refund of that part of the $2,800.00 I paid them for the project. As of Saturday, January 30th, 2011, I have seen nothing in the mail and heard nothing from them by phone. I called them several times, starting on Tuesday, February 1st, 2011. It is now October 6, 2011, and thus far refused to return any of my phoe calls. I recently learned that their website is off-line and that their e-mail address is down also. I paid a total of $2,800.00 for the restoration work, part of this total is $400.00 to change the double triggers to a single-trigger configuration. To change the butt stock back to its orginal configuration would require a n ew stock to be made; this would cost at least $1,400.00. Bob Williams and Wind River Rifle are a disgrace to the firearms community and should be exposed as such.
