Auto Palace Jay Abram Broke Contract, withheld paperwork and hidden fees Woodside, New York
5th of Dec, 2011 by User499412
During the initial sale, I was informed that after the first six months, my payments would reduce from $457.71 to about $288 a month, and that I would have to return to the dealership (Auto Palace) in order to make such arrangements.
After being given the 'run around' for two weeks by the sales team claiming the finance manager was either sick, on vacation, or simply would not be in a certain day, I, along with my wife, went down today (12/6/2012) for a long awaited "appointment." I would like to add upon my confirmation phone call to the dealership prior to making the trip down there ( I reside in CT while the dealer is in Queens, NY) the unprofessional receptionist told me quite rudely, that I would be "wasting my time" coming down without calling to verify he would be in the building for my appointment time. I was told to call 30 minutes prior to the appointment time, but it would take at least an hour and a half to drive down there.
The receptionists explanation was "well he lives far away and the weather is bad." I went anyways and showed up ten minutes after the appointment time. We were left waiting without anyone asking if we wanted anything, or apologizing for the wait, much less an acknowledgment that we were there sitting off in the corner of the showroom. After 40 minutes of waiting I confronted the finance manager (Jay) and he told me it would be an additional fifteen minutes. A man named Monroe dressed in jeans, sweatshirt and cap, introduced himself to us but did not identify
what his position was at the dealership and handed me some paperwork to fill out at a nearby desk. In the process of the paperwork, he took a personal phone call on his cellular phone and proceeded to use vulgar language to the person on the other end without leaving the desk. His conversation got surprisingly more heated and he left the area, returning without an apology for his inappropriate behavior. He avoided eye contact and when I attempted small talk, he replied in
shrugs or one-word responses. He submitted our paperwork to refinance the car as promised to the finance manager and Jay began processing the application. Jay claimed we obtained too much debt since the initial purchase of the car (our house and an additional
used car). We pointed out on his system that our mortgage was finalized before we purchased the vehicle there and had to remind him that we used our first payment stub during the address verification process back in the Spring. He then tried to claim that the $5000 financing on our winter car would make it difficult to refinance the 350Z. We explained when we purchased the winter car (only a few weeks ago) that we received our credit scores from the other dealership and
they were both well-above average for my wife and myself individually and that refinancing should not be an issue. Jay then said it would be a few minutes more and he would try to help us out. In the meantime, we received paperwork confirming we had a warranty on the 350Z from an office assistant. We
had been trying to obtain this document via mail and through the third-parties system for the past six months and come to find out, it wasn't through Nissan at all, it was through a retailer, which was not agreed upon during the original sale. We had to confirm through the retailer after leaving Auto Palace that the warranty was in fact in effect because the Nissan warranty system showed no record of protection for our VIN. Jay came back to us and said that due to our complaints filed through the BBB and Attorney General's office
about their service and questionable sales methods, he would not be able to help us refinance the vehicle. I asked him if I should consider his refusal a retaliation and he did not deny my accusation.
I requested a copy of the contracts and paperwork that I signed at the original sale (which I had sent a request via phone multiple times over the past six months as well as through certified mail which were ignored) and he said he would not release any of my paperwork without a court order and dismissed me.
