On Thursday evening at about 6 p.m., a young lady about the age of 20 by the name of Frances Fernandez approached me and asked to use my phone to call someone. I did not know her name at that time and had never met her before that day. I offered to dial the number for her, instead of handing the phone to her. She called a man she knew and asked him if she could stay the night at his house because she had missed the Metro train in Miami and that she had nowhere to go for the night. The friend of hers told her she could not stay with him for the night because he had other plans and was not expecting her. So, me being a youth minister, I felt sorry for her because it was raining really hard and I did not want her to have to stay in the streets all night in the rain; so I offered to let her stay at my house for the night
and told her she could get up in the morning and catch the TriRail train to transfer to the Metro train in Miami. I told her I would drive her to the TriRail train station in the morning. I asked her where she lived. She claimed she lived in Miami. When we got to my house, I let her watch TV, and my son, who is home from college, went out and bought her some food for dinner out of kindness. At 10 a.m., the next day, which was Friday morning, my son woke up startled and came into my room and startled me and told me to get up and go find that girl because she had stolen his lap-top computer and his iPod. We rushed and got in the car to go to the train station to see if we could find her but could not. We came back home and immediately called the police and made a police report. The police officer who came out to our house ran a search of Frances Fernandez and told us she had a criminal record for selling stolen property. Criminals like Frances Fernandez who play on people's sympathy in order to gain access to their homes in order to rip them off are very migratory. Usually that kind will migrate anywhere in the state but not leave the state. In this case, she will migrate anywhere in the state of Florida seeking out more victims to deceive and scam so beware of her.
