Deceptive on no-contract plan

I switched to the T-mobile no-contract plan after seeing adds that it was $20 cheaper than the regular plans. I was 2.5 years into my contract and happy with the phones so figured why not. Also the data plan for my phone dropped $5 and the minutes were lower in the new plan were lower so I expected a $25 drop in my bill at minimum.

In fact - the bill only dropped $10 and now I find that if I was on the current contract plan my bill would A) have more minutes and B) be $10 cheaper if I went with the lowest data plan or the same with the $20 plan.

I'm told I can go back on the contract but I have to either upgrade both phones immediately or give up the right to upgrade for 2 years. I.e., it's no different than going to a different provider and buying new phones and a new plan and that is my current plan - there is NO benefit to staying with T-mobile - I'm treated like a new customer (sans any new customer incentives) and I like the punitive action of not rewarding them for their deception.
