The Colonnade at Germantown Apartments The leasing office did not comply the landlord-tenant act by not replacing degrading carpet pads and musty car
27th of Nov, 2011 by User127831
To whom it may concern: My family members have been experiencing runny nose, cough, itchy skin, skin rash, and irritated respiratory tract after moving into the apartment located at 1335 North Coppershire Cove 202, Germantown TN in July 2011. These symptoms were gone or at least reduced once we leave the apartment. My daughters were kicked out of school last Sep. 14 and 15, 2011 due to itchy skin. I have been trying to communicate and resolve this musty and non-habitable apartment issue with the leasing office in a good faith since around middle July, 2011 after I noticed the apartment has this musty issue. I presented all the evidences, they neglect the facts and were not willing to solve the issues instead of keeping lying to everybody involved including an agent at the Consumer Affairs of Tennessee. Now (November, 2011), my family members began to have chest pain while living in this apartment. These chest pains were gone once we leave the apartment. I asked them to check these issues out and replace the degrading carpet pads and musty carpet last week. They promised that someone from the carpet company will come to check this morning (11/28/2011), but today they refused to have this guy to check the carpet pads and carpet in my apartment instead of insisting to reschedule another visit which they could not determine the time. Here are the list of defects and evidence of some defects in the apartment: 1. The air condition has water leaking for years when it is running; some part of the metal located just above the air filter has been rusted due to the leaking water; the landlord could not fix it. Now, the landlord installed a lock to lock the AC housing room. 2. The carpet pads are in a poor condition. In particular, there are a lot of brown/black spots in the pads. These spots are degraded since holes can be easily made at these spots just by touching the spots with figures. The carpet pads have mold growth making the pad turn into yellow; in this small apartment, there are at least two different carpet pads which suggest that the pads are not installed at one time due to some reason; 3. The wooden strips used to fix the carpet in position have turned into black due to water leaking or condensation; 4. The place under the fire place has mold growth; the fire place gives out very strong moldy smell; 5. All the walls in the living room, hallway, bedrooms and dinning room give out very bad musty smell; 7. All the carpets in the apartment give out musty smell. The carpet pad is even worse; 8. The closets have the strongest musty smell. The two small bedrooms are also full of musty smell. Above, I just list some of the defects in this apartment instead of all the defects in this apartment affecting people’s health and making this apartment not habitable. The landlord still neglects the issues in this apartment. I appreciate your help. Thanks!
