| A couple of months ago, I wrote a check for $56.59 at a local gas station. Unfortunately, I found out immediately that some money that I thought would arrive into my bank account was delayed a day and so the check was returned NSF. I went to the gas station and asked to "buy" the check back. I was told the appropriate person was not available and that I should come back later. I left a number to call. The same thing happened the next day as well. Finally on the third day, I was told that the check was sent to a collection service. Now it gets ugly. A process server from Collection Bureau Services Inc. tried to deliver papers to my house in Montana. I am rarely there now because I needed to talk a job out-of-town. My family panicked however and so I called the process server and the "Collection Bureau Services, Inc." of Missoula, MT. The initial guy named Bill Butler refused to even talk to me, discuss settlement, etc. until I have been "served". Apparently that it how their scam works. They take small over-draft types of debts, inflate them with bogus costs and then sue you for ridiculous amounts of money. The scam is that they threaten law suits that they have no intent of pursuing just to get you to pay them out of fear. I did manage to talk to one other person who told me that I can make the problem "go away" for a merely $346.36. If I wanted a receipt I could include a SASE. Apparently, I would have to send them a check and "trust them" that they wont discover that someone moved a paper clip or something and charge me more money than we agreed. This is really an evil organization. Their whole purpose is to pray on people that can least afford it and extort money from them. I called them again today and go stuck with the evil tool "Bill" again. He refused again to discuss settlement until after I let them "serve" me. I turned on my droid call recorder which he "really didn't like", yelling "I don't give you permission. I don't give you permission" over and over again. He is one sick puppy but I suspect anyone would be working for such a souless entity. Would appreciate any advice. I REALLY don't want to give them any money to reward them for the evil they cause.
