Eastman Kodak/Precision Camera
Eastman Kodak/Precision Camera wore out the warranty
28th of Apr, 2011 by User875751
Bought the most expensive Kodak camera I could find, as it had the clarity and options I wanted for my travels. Has several trips planned... Africa, India, Irian Jaya Indonesia, and Mongolia. Took the camera to Africa and after a dozen pictures, the camera quit. Turns out the camera wouldn't save pictures to the chip; only the camera itself. Returned the camera to the seller and was given another, which we checked in the store and it put the pictures on the chip, so I exchanged the camera.
Went to India and the camera acted up there too. It would shut it's own power off when you turned it on; if you managed to get a picture in between, the lens would stay protruding and you couldn't get it back, because the power would stay off. Transporting the camera back home and was a problem, but managed; with no damage. Kodak insisted I send the camera from California to Connecticut to Precision Camera. I did so and after several weeks they sent me a slip of paper saying they did a little repair... I tried taking a picture, the power went out and the lens stuck out again. I called Precision camera and asked if they actually tried to take a picture, they only replied they repaired it. They told me to send it back. Each of these times it cost me shipping and insurance which wasn't cheap.
I got it back just before Irian Jaya/Indonesia and packed it. I got just a half-dozen pictures when it did the same thing. I called and told them that if they couldn't repair the camera after checking it, to send me a different one or contact Kodak and work something out for a refund as this camera was almost double in price to what I paid since I had to buy throw away cameras and do all this shipping and waiting. Their paperwork again showed they "repaired" the camera with the exact same repairs as they did the first time and sent it back to me! This time they said it was my fault since I didn't put in a more expensive chip designed for that camera.
Since this had taken so long I was now out of warranty; I bought that chip and went to Mongolia. Got about six shots done and the camera stuck it's lens out and quit again. Got home and called. They told me it would cost me a couple hundred dollars this time. I really felt that they took so much time to fix it that they knew it would expire the warranty and it would be all a money maker. Finally someone stole the camera (with the repair slips) and I haven't shed a tear. I really would like a refund of my costs since they never checked the camera to see if it actually worked after their 'repairs' and the camera, after only a few shots, needed the exact same repairs the next time, suggesting to me that they never actually repaired it.
I contacted both Kodak and Precision Camera and was treated with disrespect and an attitude of 'your loss; not ours'. I hope no-one has to deal with these companies in the future.
