We paid this Agency a lump sum amount, $5635 to join the aupair program with them for one year contract. They send us the 1st aupair, but she left after three months due to personal reasons. Later, we found out that she was placed with another family in Ohio. We then asked for a replacement and paid an additional $1800 to get a replacement aupair. Not to mention we have to find childcare during this period. It took three months for the replacement aupair to arrive in our house. The 2nd aupair left after three weeks with us and want to be placed with another family. Please note that in both cases, there were no complaints from either aupairs to this Agency about our family. They were just not happy in the area. With the replacement aupair, the Agency took her and is looking for a new family for her. We have been very professional and follow the State Department rules and regulations.
This agency is has no concept on customer service. They do not care about their customers. They take my money to make more money for themselves. They do not support the working families who has paid them for their services. They fail to conduct investigation for find out why the aupair wants to leave, they fail to mediate and try to get the aupair to resovlve any conflicts with the host family. They fail to train the aupair about the rematching process. They support the aupair to look for other families instead of mediation and working out a solution with the family. Rematching with another family with an aupair aready in the States mean more money for them. They are very unethical.

Here's a conversation between my family and an aupair agency; (most of them just rip you off, you better be careful! one is Jannete Houtton, the other one is Mimi Taylor (not her actual name though as she is a Nigerian;

An agency fee of 170.00 pound was agreed on. A part payment of 100 pound was paid to the agency on the 16th of June, the remaining amount of 70 pound is to be paid by July month-end. This payment is to secure an aupair for the period of 4 months (July-Oct 2011)

The aupair got to us on the evening of Tuesday the 21st and started work on Wednesday the 22nd of June. Agreed salary was 90 pound/week.

We woke up on Thursday the 22nd just to find out that the backdoor was unlocked. The aupair had left without notifications, and also put the whole family at risk by this action. We notified the agency hours later. And below email was received from the agency

“I had complained from Silvia and her friend...That silvia hasn't Eaten nearly Nothing since she arrived...!! She had Dirty room and had to wash in a backet With Not Water at all!! She Worked. From 7 AM to 21 PM!!! She had to go her room, stay in Dark and couldn't use her Phone at all...PLS, DO EXPLAIN as I am VERY DISSAPOINTED indeed..! - Janette Hutton Machac”

‘Silvia hasn't Eaten nearly Nothing’- This is a big lie from hell. Silvia [The Aupair] ate like everyone else in the house. She had dinner the day she came. Breakfast, lunch and dinner the following day.

She had Dirty room: I will be sending the picture of the room in question. There’s nothing dirty in the room. Our house may not be like Buckingham Palace, but it’s not a ghetto either. Every room in the house is well-kept.

‘had to wash in a backet With Not Water at all’: There are 2 bathrooms in the house, one for the family, and the other for our guests. She was to use the guest bathroom. And when she wanted to take her bath we noticed the shower is only bringing out Hot water. I got a bucket for her to mix cold water for the evening. And I specifically explained to her that I would ask ‘British HomeCare Engineer’ to fix the tap the following day.

She Worked. From 7 AM to 21 PM!: She did not work till 21.00. She was to work from 7pm and puth the kids to bed at 7-7.30. I wouldn’t know where the idea of 21.00 came from!

‘stay in Dark’: There are 2 bulbs in Silvia’s room. Again, how could someone say they stay in the dark with the level of brightness that comes from these 2 bulbs?

Couldn’t use her Phone at all: Using her phone is got nothing to do with me.

As the agreed payment was to cover for 4 months, in a situation where an aupair decides to leave the Agency must provide another aupair to cover the stated period.
