About 2 years ago my fiance won a karaoke competition from Morgans bar in Mokena IL. The grand prize was a 650.00 travel voucher to fly anywhere you want to for up to 650.00. So they gave her a certificate which had a serial number on it, with the bars name at the top, my fiaces name was also on it. It states that she is entitled to 650.00 and at the bottom the employee who is in charge of the contests at the bar, his name was also printed on it and below he signed his name and gave it to her. There was no date on it nor was there an expiration date on there. So we have been engaged for about 2 years now and she was saving this trip up for our honeymoon to purchase the airline tickets. Brooke ( my fiace) called up the bar and explained what was going on and wanted to know how she can redeem her airline tickets and Brian Fisher (in charge of all contests at the bar) told us he would look into it and call us back. 2 weeks no phone call, so we called again and Brian was never in. Well on November 6th we were up at the bar and spoke to Bob ( " the owner") and he said to call on tuesday and speak with Brian and he will take care of everything for us. Well we called and Brian tells us that he will not give us anything because it expired even though there is no expiration date on the certificate. He said most people claim their trip a week after winning it but we didn't so its not valid. We said we were saving this up for our honeymoon and really need this money for our tickets which will be in June. He said there is nothing he will do to help us out and we explained we are regulars in your bar/bowling alley and we give you so much business and your ripping us off and he hung up. So now we call up Bob (AKA the owner) and told him what was going on and he said he will call us right back after he finds out whats going on, and about 10 min later he called. He said that it expired 1 year after recieving it even though there is no date on our certificate nor did they state that when they handed this out. Again we explained everything to him and he didn't care at all and we told him well this certificate was supposed to be for travel vouchers for 650.00 but the it states $650.00 winner so we asked for a check and he said thats too much money for them to give out and he won't do it. We tried to make a deal with him that we would look for the cheapest possible fare for round trip tickets to Mexico which wouldn't cost 650.00 and they could just cover that and he wouldn't have anything to do with that and then stated that he thinks we printed this certificate on our own computer and we are just trying to scam him. We cannot possibly duplicate this certificate especially since there is a serial number on it and he previously looked up the certificate number and knew exactly when we won this. So we told him that his own employee in charge signed it and handed it to us when Brooke won and still insisted that we printed out this document ( which isn't even printed on regular paper, its almost cardboard) Brooke was devastaed and in awe that he would act like that seeing as that we are there all the time and that this bar makes great money and he wouldn't even give us what she earned. I wrote the BBB and complained to them and even wrote the Fixer from the Chicago Sun times to try and get some closure about this. Recently we seen on Morgans website that starting November 10th was a Karaoke contest and first place was a trip to Vegas. If there is anything you can possibly do to try and make this situation change we both would be estatic especially since this wedding is costing so much as it is. Even if we can't get the money or the tickets, we would love for this to be out there for people to see so that they know whats going on with this bar before they go and spend lots of money drinking and eating here for a karaoke competetion and then get disappointed like we did.
