| Ninenewyork.com is the latest incarnation of 9Chelsea.com, run by the same scammers. “You do whatever you feel like you need to do.†“I have no knowledge of what you’re talking about.†“Did you read our cancellation policy?†“There’s no one else here at the moment to address your matter.†These are the useless directives that I received from the individual who identified herself as Ellie Kay, the property manager of 9 Chelsea (now known as Nine New York) based in Broadway, New York when I called her to find out why she had charged us an additional $700 after our cancellation. This was after our email conversations with her to get our initial deposit back. In our earlier attempts to reach her, she had been wholly unresponsive, and when we called her out for the poor customer service, she went nuts. She accused us of lying and said that no part of our initial refund would be returned to us, despite the cancellation policy stating 50% of the deposit would be returned. After we complained about her not following their own cancellation policy, she made the credit card charge of $700 without authorization. We have also filed complaints with the New York Department of Consumer Affairs regarding this incident of fraud and have left negative reviews on TripAdvisor.com, an online destination for travellers and alerted others to 9 Chelsea’s scam. Interestingly after the online attention, 9 Chelsea then took their website down,and changed their name to Nine New York. This action indicated they were aware that they were committing fraud and were going into damage control. It is disgusting that Ellie Kay, ninenewyork.com are still trying to hide their illegal actions. |

Small but happy

This is a small flat but it does exactly what it says on the tin! The flat was clean and cosy and we enjoyed our stay there. It was near to the subway (4/5 minute walk) and pretty convenient for shops/restaurants. The bathroom was small but was quite well kept. The owner was pleasant and helpful. Good place to be if you want to be slightly outside of central manhattan but still very near to it - just 10 mins or so on the subway. The one major drawback was the block itself - very grotty and slightly creepy, but once inside the flat can be forgotten. Generally happy with the stay, pretty good value for money and would recommend to others

Simple great place

Great place to stay in Manhattan if you are planning to go to NY and spend some time living like a real new yorker, we highly recomend this studio!
It takes a 20 blocks walk to Times Square (you can do it! We did it a couple of times), and it's only two blocks from the nearest subway station.
A very peaceful neighborhood and has everything you might need in a short walk distance.
The studio is large enough for a couple with four bags (our case), everything is well clean and there's a lot of useful kitchen suplies (everything you'll need in a vacation time).
The negotiation with the office was very easy, all our doubts were promptly answered by email and GTalk. We didn't actually meet our rental, we scheduled a day and someone from the office came to the apartment to pick up the money, which we found pretty easy (for those who dont want to loose a few hours solving financial issues it's a great deal!).
The heating system work wonderfully, sometimes a bit too much (we had to open the window to cool of the room).
If someday we came back to NYC there is no doubt we'll stay here again!

Amazing Service!

I stayed in this apt with my little sister for a college hunting tour last summer, 2010. With a fold-out bed in the couch, it was a perfect fit. It's certainly "cozy", but has enough charm to compensate for space. And, honestly, when in NYC, you just need a place for pitstops and a few hours of sleep!
The neighborhood is ideal. Great subway access. Great immediate walking and sightseeing area (very close to the amazing High Line park). But it also feels like a neighborhood (saw Ethan Hawke exiting a home with his kid just a few buildings down the street).
But what I really want to praise is the service. I wanted to return this summer, 2011, and through some miscommunication ended up in a situation where I was just an hour away from boarding a plane to NYC and realized that my reservation was not confirmed. I tried hard not to panic and asked if they could help in any way. They totally came through! Within an hour, they had found another apt in midtown that was available for 2 of the 4 nights I needed, and a boutique hotel to accommodate the other 2 nights. The hotel was literally next door to the apt, so it was minimal hassle. They offset the price on the hotel by reducing the charge for the massive apt and it all came out to about the same price I had budgeted.
I would not have been able to come up with this sort of affordable last minute solution on my own. Not even close. That sort of care and service is rare, especially in vacation rental business and in NYC, no less. I was very impressed.
Now, I'm not recommending that you wait until you are boarding a plane to NYC to call them up and ask for an apartment. Bad idea! But in this particular case, they stepped up and really came through!
