Original Moving and Storage Total ripoff artists 11401 Grandview Avenue, Maryland

I first contacted this company to make a temporary move for us while we did somethings in our home. They moved us out, the home is 5000 sq ft. The majority of the stuff went into a self storage unit, and the rest went into a one bedroom apartment. I did all the packing and purchased my own packing material from the self storage unit. I would note that I have a baby grand piano, and that was put into the one bedroom apartment. The cost of the move went up to almost three times the amount originally quoted. But it was the end of a long day, I was tired and emotional and didn't pay much attention. We paid the bill and went on. In November, just two months later, I called to have them move the stuff back into the house. We were only moving the one bedroom apartment back into the home. It was one bed, a dresser, nightstand, baby grand piano, kitchen items, couch, tv, two bookshelves, and about 25 boxes. The estimate of 729. Upon arrival at the house the foreman demanded payment of 1922. I didn't have that much so I called my sister, who offered to pay the bill. This was the day before Thanksgiving, and because it was a local move, I had allowed all of our clothes, prescriptions and the like to be put in the back of the truck. They were charging somewhere around 600 and some dollars for packing. Again, I had not only done the packing, but I provided all the materials. Like the other people, they bubble wrapped the tv. They claimed they needed two extra men to help move the piano down the stairs in the aparment, but it was the same three there that had moved it into the apartment. They refused to take the payment from my sister and drove off with all our belongings. Because he wouldn't take payment from my sister, I said I could make the payment the following Friday, which he told me it would be the same amount. The following Monday I spoke with them again, and on Thursday, I was once again assured the amount would be the 1922. I called on Friday morning to make the payment and I was advised that it was now going to be more. The bill was raised to 2622. Mr. Hassan, the owner of the company told me I needed to get myself together and realize that I was going to pay him what he wanted or I wasn't going to get my stuff back. At that point I started calling difference agencies to try and get help. I filed a complaint with the BBB they contacted Original, and the price was raised again. I filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection agency of the Attorney General's office in MD, the price again was raised, and each time they refused to mediate. Upon hiring an attorney to tried to mediate the situation, they again raised the price. I had to find a local attorney in Silver Spring Maryland to file a replevin action in order to get my goods back. In the meantime I filed a complaint with the Federal Motor Carriers USDOT, Household division. They investigated the case and found it to be a hostage situation, which is where someone offers to pay the bill and the mover refuses to deliver. I still had to go through with the suit, which I prevailed in. The court awarded the bond back to me, almost 1300 of the 1700 bond was returned to me. the FMC fined Original Moving and Storage some $20,000, $12,000 of which was associated with my move alone. It took me the better part of a year to get this straightened out. Our belongings stayed in storage from November until March when the replevin action was heard, and we posted the bond with the court and then had to have another mover go and retrieve our belongings from the storage unit that they had stored it in. And it was in a storage unit with someone else's belongings. There are so many things that these people do that is wrong and illegal that there is no way I could list them all. But if you are going to move you want to completely steer clear of this company. I cannot say that loud and clear enough.
