PlatePass FRAUDULENT CHARGES - BEWARE! Scottsdale, Arizona

My husband rented a car from the Hertz Rental Car Company at O'Hare Airport recently on a business trip. He specifically inquired about the charges involved with using PlatePass and told the Hertz customer service person that he would not use the PlatePass. He kept the transponder in the shield box as he was advised and paid cash when he went through toll booths. About two weeks after his trip, I found a charge of $10.45 on our credit card account from PLATEPASS HERTZ TOLLS - 877.411.4300 AZ, and I called to inquire about it. After I explained the situation and stated that we believed there was a mistake in the charge, the (male) representative refused to discuss the issue with me since my husband was not available to speak to him at the time. We called again today and spoke with a female representative. She referred to my previous call to dispute the charge and claimed that they had images of the rental vehicle going through toll lanes that did not accept cash, and would therefore not withdraw their charge. Her statement is clearly false, since my husband paid cash, so obviously he had to have driven through the lanes that accepted cash. The PlatePass company is acting in a dishonest manner and should be prosecuted. The company evidently believes that people will not notice this covert charge on their credit cards. I contacted our credit card company about this and was told that the charge would be refunded to us by next business day. We have noticed quite similar complaint reports by others who have rented cars from Hertz. So beware. You may be better off renting from a different company.
