Rate My Horse Pro is the self proclaimed watchdog for the equestrian community. The problem is they are nothing more than an internet tabloid that attempts to destroy people's lives over nothing more than a personal vendetta. They claim to be a place that you can `rate' equestrian professionals for the sum of $5 but the truth is that anybody is fair game, regardless of your professional or amateur stats.. Also, if they don't like what you say or how you rate somebody, their terms of use state that they will deleted your ratings and keep your money.
The owner of RMHP, Debbie Goad Hanson, operates under the alias of Lucia Carroll and creeps around the internet looking for the next `big thing' to hitch her publicity wagon to. All the better if she can skew the facts to create a scandal. If she or one of her pals, don't like you she will trump up lies and half truths and post them as fact. Hanson also uses more than one facebook and internet account to bump up her ratings.
Hanson, caused damage, pain and suffering to an amateur horseman in New York that suffered and unimagineable tragedy in the name of ratings and out of vengence for her friend, Michele DeVinney Schmoll, hurt feelings. Partnered with another organization that is not what they would have you believe, Netposse, this pit of vipers make money and ratings on the misfortune of others. They don't even have the fortitude to identify themselves when calling for information and are very selective on who they get their information from and what they choose to report. This results in them posting outright lies and they refuse any attempts at setting the record straight.
Anybody that has any dealings with this website or women, need to think twice. They basically blackmail horse people into paying their fee to even read their own ratings and encourage others to pay up and rate, so that they wont' fall into the crosshairs of RMHP and get a bunch of negative publicity. The horse communtiy needs to weed out this bad apple and refuse to be blackmailed for ratings any longer... |

7 stallions for sale and all were running together with mares and foals? What horseman does that? How do you know what was bred to what?
He was selling all his mares and also offering stud services. How is he not a professional. He wanted $1000 stud fee.

| Having looked at the articles listed, there seems to be some inconsistency in the content of those statements, in that Michele deVinney Schmoll, when she left the position as administrator of the FB Flood Horses page, became an active contributor to the RateMyHorsePro page, running Mr. Neff into the ground. In fact, it may prove that she helped to develop the RMHP article in the first page, as did Kim and Joe French - prominently listed as sources by RMHP and Tessier and the neighbors, who claimed they had warned Mr. Neff about the flood, fed his horses, etc. - all statements with no basis in fact. Mr. Neff seems to think that Michele Schmoll told him to call the police about the 4 horses that were taken, while in the newspaper statement she denies it and says just the opposite. These inconsistencies in fact, loyalty, i.e. playing both sides of the fence - offering assistance in part of the media while plying other media with destructive and defamatory statements against Mr. Neff - are what created this situation in the first place. The former FB administrators when they left as administrators did not step aside as claimed. Instead they turned their efforts to the Rate My Horse Pro article and then laden the RMHP FB comments page with pages of further defamatory contributions. This was no help but a destructive intentional attack meant to do harm. Their motives for acting as they did - only they can explain. |

I can only hope that sanity and sensitivity prevail at some point and that these attacks on Mr Neff and others will cease. |

As defined by USEF, an amateur is:
3. Permitted activities by Amateur. An amateur is permitted to do the following:
a. Accept reimbursement for actual expenses associated with conducting classroom seminars for a not-for-profit
organization, therapeutic riding programs, or programs for charitable organizations approved in advance by the
Federation.
b. Act as a camp counselor when not hired in the exclusive capacity as a riding instructor; assist in setting schooling
fences without remuneration; give instruction or training to handicapped riders for therapeutic purposes.
c. Appear in advertisements and/or articles related to acknowledgement of one’s own personal or business
sponsorship of a competition and/or awards earned by one’s owned horses.
d. Accept prize money as the owner of a horse in any class other than equitation or showmanship classes.
e. Accept prize money in Dressage.
f. Accept a non-monetary token gift of appreciation valued less than $300 annually.
g. Serve as an intern for college credit or course requirements at an accredited institution provided one has never held
professional status with the Federation or any other equestrian National Federation. In addition, one may accept
reimbursement for expenses without profit, as prescribed by the educational institution’s program, for the internship.
At the request of the Federation, an amateur shall provide certification from the accredited educational institution
under whose auspices a student is pursuing an internship that he is undertaking the internship to meet course or
degree requirements.
h. Write books or articles related to horses.
i. Accept remuneration for providing service in one’s capacity as a: presenter or panelist at a Federation licensed
officials’ clinic, competiition manager, competition secretary, judge, steward, technical delegate, course designer,
announcer, TV commentator, veterinarian, groom, farrier, tack shop operator, breeder, or boarder.
j. Accept reimbursement for any bona fide expenses directly related to the horse (i.e. farrier/vet bills, entries). Travel,
hotel, equipment, and room and board are not considered bona fide expenses.
k. Entries for non-under saddle classes in amateur sections at hunter, jumper or hunter/jumper competitions, must be
paid either (i) directly to the competition by the amateur or the amateur’s family or (ii) by someone whom the amateur
or the amateur’s family reimburses within 90 days of the last day of the competition for which the entries were paid.
l. Accept educational, competition, or training grant(s).
I think Manfromupstate needs to pull `his' head out of his butt and bone up on what an amateur is and is not before he calls his own self a professional horseman. Breeding and selling a horse does not make anybody a `professional' any more than chasing rainbows is likely to turn up a leprechaun. |

Let me get this straight...
Leland Neff is bullied by his neighbors for years, he is victimized by a cove of publicity seeking housewives and he is the bad guy because he finally speaks up on his OWN page? I would guess he is about out of cheeks to turn since RMHP, Schmoll and Netposse have been relentless in their vendetta against him. I'm glad he has finally had enough and refuses to roll over anymore. Perhaps the horse world will finally be rid of the boil that is RMHP on its collective ass. |

| the story about Mr. Neff seemed to me to be a desperate attempt to rile people up, with complete disregard for honesty or accurate reporting. I don't know Mr. Neff, but some of our upstate towns were devastated by the mismanagement of the dam during hurricaine Irene. At least one town I know of is suing the state because of the mismanagement of the Gilboa Dam. 5 1/2 months later, the towns are still trying to recover from all their damage. The article about Mr. Neff implied that he should've known the flood was coming. This not only is wrong, but is an affront to Mr. Neff and to all of us who have suffered the consequences of the widepread disaster. From Poestenkill to Rotterdam Junction to Schoharie to Binghamton to Owego, our state was devastated. To try to blame a man for suffering the effects of a widespread disaster is simply wrong. |
