Have you ever been afraid of buying something online and receiving an empty box in the mail? Well, fear no more, for these guys are the real pros at doing just that! Read on...

VINTAGEEYEGLASSESONLINE.COM is a group of scammers who have set up a posh website to lull you with a false sense of security. The prices of the frames on sale are low enough to lure you and high enough to make them look legit. They seem to have found the perfect balance here.

They will answer your pre-sales questions with such sweet-talk and immediacy that you would easily mistake them to a professional store. Athough none of the emails would be signed with a name. To this day I do not know the name of the person I had been communicating with!

Anyway, you then give your credit card info to them and you will get an automated order report right away. But that is when the emails completely cease from them. You have to mail them repeatedly for a few days before they will acknowledge the order and then again for a few more days before they will tell you that the order has been shipped. No tracking number.

Many days later, you get a neatly packed box. When you open it with brimming excitement, you will be greeted with a bunch of packing material and plain papers - no frames. :)

Do you know what would happen when you contact them to find out what went wrong?

YOU: "Here are the pictures of the box I received. There are no frames inside!"
VEO: "The frames must have been stolen."
YOU: "But the box looks intact!"
VEO: "Contact the post office."
YOU: "I already and I have filed a report. I have attached their complaint acknowledgemnt."
VEO: "Ask them if they will cover the cost of your frames."
YOU: "Huh? Isn't that supposed to be done by the seller?"
VEO: "We haven't insured it."
YOU: "Why did you not insure such a high value item? What am I supposed to do now?"
VEO: "Contact the post office. Keep us informed."
YOU: "How would they cover the payment I made to you for delivering me a frame?"
VEO: "There is nothing we can do."
YOU: "Please refund or at least give me store credit for non-delivery of purchased item."
VEO: "Contact your bank and try for a chargeback. Good luck."
YOU: "I will. I shall also be letting the world know who you are and what you do."

I then started digging up about the company and guess what I find! First of all, the address listed on their website and the return address on the box are both P.O. Boxes. What sort of a legitimate company uses a P.O. Box return address? Is this a way for them to easily change their identity once someone exposes them like me?

I'm a fool to have not checked these out properly before parting with my money. Anyway, lesson learned.

I hope these will help you. These are some of the addresses I dug up from domain info. Watch out for these even if they change their company / website name.

The address they mailed it from:
Vintage Eyeglasses Online
PO Box 61
Old Bethpage, NY 11804
info@vintageeyeglassesonline.com

The address on their domain:
Greenberg, Elliot
3694 Smith Street
Wantagh, New York 11793
United States
(516) 318-2303
ega4ads@aol.com

The address on a related domain:
Greenberg, Elliot
270 Oser Avenue
Hauppauge, NY 11788
United States
(631) 952-7500
ega4ads@aol.com

Another address on the related domain:
555 Broadhollow Road, Suite 205,
Melville, NY 11747
United States
(641) 543-1500
ega4ads@aol.com

I've now emailed my bank with all the photographs of the box stuffed with paper and the detailed post office report, asking them to intervene and get my money back. Who knows if I will, because someone this steeped in scam techniques probably has a few more up their sleeve to run away with the money and fail the chargeback.

I hope this was helpful to you and I really you would stay away (really far away) from these dregs of the society. Stay safe.

Stan.

Additional details:

The box was opened in the presence of the delivery person and even he was surprised it contained nothing of value.

The person in charge of the local post office who took my mail fraud complaint examined the box and mentioned that it looked intact except for the opening I have made so it's likely the seller sent them that way (although he still took the complaint and I have shown that to Elliot when asking to resolve the issue).

Why should I contact the credit card company when clearly one has to contact the seller first to resolve the problem?

Why was I not informed that the glasses would be shipped without insurance? Neither the shipping policy on the website nor the seller's order confirmation messages after placing the order mentioned that no insurance would be purchased!

Who ships such high value items without an insurance? When one makes the payment for an item and its shipping, it is the responsibility of the seller to make sure the item arrives intact, is it not? And if the seller is not willing to pay the extra few dollars that it takes to get the insurance, doesn't it automatically become the seller's responsibility to cover for the losses?

I'm sure any buyer wouldn't be averse to paying a few extra dollars for insurance so why don't they at least ask? Unless of course they were planning from the start to just send a box stuffed with papers which one cannot insure for such a large amount!

Here's the icing on the cake. When I mentioned to Elliot that the bank has replied to my query saying that they would not process chargebacks based on the contents of a post and would only process if the seller did not deliver anything, she told me to choose the option on the chargeback form that said the seller did not deliver anything!

There's nothing more to say. Frankly, I'm disgusted by this whole experience. Good luck if you are ever going to deal with them in the future.

Stan.
