Western Governor's University is a scam outfit. I believe these are their employees or surrogates here calling people names and defending this sham. A diploma mill would be a step up for these people. For all of you people on here calling names and telling people to do their research, know this. I DID. And then some. I turned over every rock checking out these people. The problem is this: they are liars. Period. It doesn't matter what department they are in at that place they are trained to lie to people. So, you can read all the garbage they publish on their website and literature and you can even believe the stories they plant in the press about themselves (like the story I read and believe in Time Magazine). The bottom line is they will say anything to get you in that school. Once they get you in there is when you learn the truth. I attended WGU for three "semesters" from 2009-2010. It was pure hell. First of all, accreditation means NOTHING. The accreditation agencies put a stamp on these scam schools and disappear for the next 10 years. These agencies will accredit anyone who jumps through a few hoops. There is absolutely zero oversight or accountability after that. They simply do not care what these people are up too. When I signed up for WGU their literature was very ambiguous about their teaching style. I asked them if they actually had teachers because I saw they had "courses" from Ed2go.com listed on a few webpages. They told me that was old information and that, "Yes!" we have instructors. I was told that they no longer "partner" with Ed2go.com. I enrolled only to learn that these people have no instructors at all. None. They have "learning mentors" who are people with zero teaching credentials at all. One of my "mentors" was working on a bachelor's degree and one of them has a certificate from ITT Tech! Huh? The so-called regular mentors who they force you to deal with every week are even worse. These people come from retail sales, Sears studio photography, etc." Yet, they're supposed to mentor you in IT. Really? I don't think so. I got the H*** out of there and suggest everyone else does as well. Their financial aid department is full of idiots and liars. They are true scammers. I had to file a complaint with the U.S. Dept. of Education against them for going into my financial aid record and making fraudulent changes (stated I had some sort of lung disease and got money from the government for it) and for stealing part of my loan refund money. I dealt with the head of that department and she continued to lie to me about all aspects of financial aid. What she did not know is that I was a financial aid officer myself for several years and I knew the lies and games they were playing and was able to call them on every one of them. These people have turned me against online schools. This particular school is considered a private corporation. They do not fall under the Utah Board of Regents or the Utah Department of Commerce. Utah does not have an Attorney General's Office that accepts individual consumer complaints and the Utah Governor's Office won't help you. DO NOT get involved with these people. Look for a reputable school--one that is regionally accredited AND is a public school. And by the way...I was in their IT Program. I learned nothing. You are basically studying to low-level IT certification tests. I have moved on and am in the last semester of a grad degree at a real school. I'm writing this to help others. I currently have a friend who entered WGU at the same time I did. The financial aid department has been screwing over her for about a month now without any end in sight. I'm posting this as a public service announcement.
