Secure Data Recovery offers a "free" hard drive evaluation to see if they feel they can recover your data. Once they make the decision that your data indeed is recoverable, they send you an email with an estimate to begin the process. But, once you pay the initial fee for them to proceed they then tell you that if for some reason they are not able to recover your data then you do not need to pay the additional fee. In my case the initial fee was $300. If they were able to recover my data, then I would send them an additional second fee of $450 for a total of a shocking $750! The ripoff here is that there is no process behind this company, they get your first fee and then just throw away your drive without trying to recover anything.

I had the same thing. The "sales rep" in charge of my account couldn't tell me a single technical detail about how the company recovered data. I demanded to talk to a tech and was denied. 300+ I paid for the initial report they said "LOOKS LIKE WE'VE MADE A FULL RECOVERY" send us more money, I wanted proof they said, "oh, sorry, we couldn't really make the recovery."

Horrible customer service. Rude reps. No technical support.
