ASA Institute, NY, NY Please be careful! Not what it seems. New York, New York

This school is a clever scam. It is designed to look and feel like a traditional education but it is not. The admissions committee gets paid a commission for the number of students they 'pull', and once they have you in that seat they don't let you leave. You go in for information and you leave with a 30,000.00 student loan. The scam is this - the owner of the school is Russian - he knows full well that once the government clears the loan, the school has already been paid. I was sitting at our graduation ceremony and the President, while visibly intoxicated, bragged to us and said that the school already had our money - and that if we wanted to maintain good credit that we would have to repay the loans. He was then booed for 20 minutes while continuing his rant and slurry speech. All heads of staff are Russian immigrants who control all the school's finances and essentially hold the American credit-rate system against us. Additionally 99% of applicants are accepted, and tests are rigged so that anyone can get into the school. It is easy to pass because the teachers give you the answers to quizzes and exams. The student body is made up of undereducated students who could not get into traditional schools because they didn't pass the entrance exams. ASA's tactic is to find these rejected individuals and sell them a story of wanting to improve their life, not settling for low paying jobs. When you first begin school, the first 2 semesters will seem normal. Teachers are smart, show up, give assignments, quizzes, ( and the answers to quizzes), but then 3rd semester rolls around and teachers don't show up, don't know the material, and will give a passing grade to students who never completed assignments or came to class. All because they need to make the school look good in order to attract more people and money. For those of you desperate like I was to do something with your life and was ready to sign anything - please don't do it with this school. There are many reputable schools out there that are actually worth the tuition - just not ASA. If the recruiters are moving too fast it is because they don't want you to change your mind because once you leave they have lost you. One of their tactics is this- after talking with the financial aid personnel, they will get on the phone to call the person who recruited you to let them know you are leaving. Since you must pass their cubicle to leave- the recruiter will stop you and sit you down again and talk some more - she will have you sign the forms, take the test you are sure to pass - and before you leave you are in debt for thousands of dollars. The recruiter gets a nice commission, the school gets paid and you are left with the baggage of repaying this loan when you leave school. Interest on the loan begins to add from the FIRST DAY you sign the documents and will continue to be added to the principal amount. If you cannot make the monthly payment dues to unemployment, or other financial responsibilities - your credit rating will take a dive. And your stress level will increase by 90%. That is when you will realize that you made a mistake. Furthermore, even though the school recently became accredited - employers do not recognize the school as being reputable - even if you try to transfer to another school, they might not accept those credits and your money would be wasted. It is your decision where to invest your money but ASA is a school to run away from - not to. Good luck.
