Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis Judge Nicholas Garaufis punishes Asian American woman for speaking her mind Brooklyn, New York

A Federal Judge who thinks he's above the law scolded and punished an Asian American young woman for speaking her mind during jury questioning. The Asian woman in her 20s - was being screened for jury duty on Tuesday in the death penalty trial of the Bonanno crime boss Vincent "Vinny Gorgeous" Basciano. She was asked to name three people she least admired. The woman wrote on her questionnaire: "African-Americans, Hispanics and Haitians." When Garaufis asked why she answered the question that way, the woman replied, "You always hear about them in the news doing something." So what does this tyrant who calls himself a judge do? He snaps at the woman: "This is an outrage, and so are you!" He then proceeds to order here to jury duty "hursday and Friday -- and until the future, when I am ready to dismiss her" Who let this creep become a judge? This is America. Americans have the right to voice their opinions - and should be able to do so without fear of retaliation or oppression by government officials. As a judge, he should know better.
Many will disagree with her statements, and that's fine. But that's what freedom of speech is all about. I say something you don't like, you say something I don't like. That's better than taping everyone's mouths. That's not progress. That's not the America I used to know. I sincerely hope that his colleagues quickly distance themselves from Garaufis, because his inexcusable actions can certainly end his career. In America - freedom of speech used to be a right, not a slogan.
