Saveology - Comcast
Scam Router and cable sign-up
14th of Jan, 2012 by asdasd
Wow... I'm pretty embarassed. Now I see lots of other people have had this same thing happen. I'm not sure writing this information is going to help, because you THINK you are dealing with Comcast cable, but they are (apparently) a third party dealer that (claims to be) associated with Comcast.... i can't even fully process what happened.

But the details are this: We were moving to a new city. Comcast was the cable/internet provider. I called the number to order. the person PRETENDS to be Comcast Cable... now apparently I understand they are NOT Comcast but a third party that also services Cox cable (and they do work directly with Cox, so... I guess they are working with Comcast as well)

The interesting thing is that Comcast also goes along with them being Comcast (as you'll see if you keep reading).

Okay... So... The person says they'll sign us up for cable-internet. They do the whole sales pitch and they know ALL The information for Comcast... present you with the choices, of sign-up options, etc, etc.

Then they say that we can LEASE a router-modem OR they will sell us one for $130 but then we get a REBATE of $115... so... it's just the shipping charge basically. I'm assured this is a much better idea than paying the $7/monthly rental fee.

I ask if there's a catch. the woman says, "No... it's just some special they're doing... it's a good deal".

OKAY! I say... I give her my credit card. She takes our information to ship the modem and assures me I'm signed up for cable and I have to be there on such-and-such day and time to wait for the cable guy to come.

--------

Of course... the cable guy doesn't come... Nor does the modem/router thingey....

I call Comcast... They have NO RECORD of me in their system. They explain they have different "divisions" or something like that. Maybe it didn't get transferred. NO REFERENCE that I might have been scammed by the comcast rep!!!

So of course the second time, the guy comes... hooks up the cable at the pole... and then leaves. no way to check inside because I STILL DON'T HAVE A ROUTER!

I then drive to the local comcast office and explain my dilemma. She looks online and says, Hmmm.... I don't see an order for you to buy a modem from us. It must be a mistake. Here, you can have THIS one.

Okay... she hands me one. I think, GREAT! This is the one I bought and that's why I don't have to pay for it.

I walk out... hook it up... I'm good to go with cable.

A few days later I get the other router I BOUGHT (For $130) in the mail. No rebate information ever comes. Comcast doesn't know anything about that.

Not only that, I'm CHARGED A LEASING FEE on the modem that the Comcast lady handed me. ($7/month)

Comcast sucks... that's easy. But Saveology is obviously a scam. And although I can't be sure, either comcast is horribly incompetent OR they are in cahoots with Saveology... that part I can't figure out.

Very, very similar thing happened to me. I'm no fool, and I'm pretty paranoid when someone calls me on the phone trying to sell me something.

It just so happens, this 'Comcast' rep knew that I had called about Comcast services and was ready and willing to place my order for service. Thing is, I called Comcast 4 times in the last 3 weeks to try and hook up services at a house I'm going to be moving to, but each time they said "The previous tenants haven't disconnected their service yet, you have to wait and call back because we can't do anything until that happens". Makes sense.

Yet this fake rep said "No problem, I'll take the order and you just call this installation number once the current tenants leave and you're all set." Then she tries really hard to sell me a cable modem, wireless router, ADT Security, and a tech support contract. I didn't need any of it and she finally backed off the sales pitch. Kind of tacky for Comcast to sell stuff like that so aggressively to a new customer I was thinking to myself.

20 minutes later, I get an email from a company called Saveology. Never heard of them, but they had all my details in the confirmation email for Comcast. I called Comcast, and they said this confirmation number I got was "useless", but they'd try calling the current tenants and see if they'll disconnect. I was on hold for 5 mins, the rep came back and set everything up (and cheaper than what saveology quoted me btw). I said "What about this Saveology order, is it going to somehow mess up what I just finally ordered with the legit Comcast?". His response? "No worries, you didn't order anything from them and that confirmation is useless".

I called Saveology to try and understand what exactly was going on and why they represented themselves as Comcast. The lady said I didn't buy anything, no harm done, and hung up on me.

It's bait and switch, fraud, and misrepresentation pure and simple. Complaint filed with the Florida AG's office, and I hope they do something about them.
